![]() ![]() While this is slightly unrelated to the topic at hand, it is also worth mentioning that Creative Assembly has recently announced a brand new campaign pack for Rome 2, as well as a new free DLC that will arrive alongside it. It's one hell of a disadvantage to overcome, but that's exactly what makes winning that campaign so enjoyable - you know you beat the odds and persevered where many others have fallen! Your economy is in tatters, your enemies are literally everywhere and are often better equipped, and to further rub salt into the wound, your weak economy quickly results in the much more powerful Eastern Roman Empire betraying you. It's technically cheating since it's not Rome 2, but it's one of those campaigns that have stuck around in my memory because of how brutal the early turns are. If you’re playing as one of the Roman factions, the Brutii, Julli or Scipii, the basic victory condition for the game is to conquer Rome and much of the world. The unlockable factions are: The Greek Cities, Egypt, the Seleucid Empire, Carthage, Gaul, Germania, Britannia, and Parthia. When you first start to play, you can only select one of the Roman factions, but others will become available in later games. Upon completion of a campaign, 8 additional factions are unlocked. Either Ardiaei, or the steppe nomads, I’d argue. Sardes will generally be attacked by Galatia, forcing you to drop them and be untrustworthy or go to war with them. Other than that, nomads are horrible in multiplayer, and Colchis is probably the hardest start in Rome 2 with the worst mix of units from 2 culture types and 0 economy to buy either. At any difficulty above medium egypt will declare war on turn 1/2, dragging in cyprus. ![]() Personally, I'd vote for the Western Roman Empire in Atilla, especially on the Legendary difficulty setting. Seleucid: Can build almost every unit in the game, meaning you can make different kinds of armies to suit the situation. Brief Topic The games campaign begins with only 3 playable factions, all Roman: Julii, Brutii, Scipii. Without the really gamy move of dropping all your satrapies, seleucids are one of the hardest factions. The nominees shouldn't come as much of a surprise given how terrible some of their early turns are, but it's still worth checking out if you feel like trying to overcome the odds. So if you were looking to give Rome 2 another try, now would be a very good time to do so, even if you don't own the Desert Kingdoms DLC as all of the new content is still present on the campaign map.įor the veterans among you that are looking for an extra bit of challenge, however, Creative Assembly has now revealed their video list of the top 5 hardest starting positions. 2, Craig Melton racked up impressive gains with the ocean going empires of.
